Top-seeded Charlotte defeated No. 8
Fordham 4-0 in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship Friday
afternoon at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Charlotte improves to
17-9 and a perfect 5-0 against A-10 team this season. Charlotte
defeated Fordham in the regular season 7-0 back on March 30.
Charlotte won the doubles point with wins at two and three. Freshman Paul Cisti (Arcachon, France) and senior Anthony Davison (Derby, England) paired up for the 8-3 win at number two. The pair is 6-12 together, winning their first pairing at that spot in the lineup this season. Freshman Kamil Khalil (Moscow, Russia) and junior Krzysztof Kwasniewicz (Wroclaw, Poland) took an 8-3 win to give Charlotte the doubles point of the match. That pairing is a team-leading 9-4 this season, with a perfect 5-0 mark in doubles play at number three. In singles, play, Charlotte needed just three wins to claim the match, with Davison striking first with a 7-5, 6-1 win at number five for his 15th win of the year and 11th of season at number five. Cisti won next, 6-2, 6-4 for his 17th victory in singles. Freshman Jack Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, his 16th in singles this year. The 49ers advance to Saturday's semifinals to face the George Washington/Temple winner at 11 a.m. |
