Jack Williams won in a tiebreaker to clinch Charlotte's home win Tuesday.
Charlotte men's tennis made it two wins in a row in a week with a 4-2 victory over Wofford at home Tuesday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The win pushes the 49ers to 6-2 overall, dropping the Terriers to 1-5. "The guys played tough tennis at the right times and pulled out another tight match," said 49ers head coach Billy Boykin. "Wofford gave us all we could handle, they are a gritty young team and we were lucky to win." Wofford clinched the doubles point before the 49ers came out firing in singles. Alex Calott (Charlotte, N.C. / Ardrey Kell HS), Kamil Khalil (Moscow, Russia) and Anthony Davison (Derby, England) all won in straight sets before number-one singles performer Jack Williams (Alpharetta, Ga. / Alpharetta HS) won a marathon match to clinch the team victory. Williams' result was 6-7 (3), 6-3, (10-6) in a third-set superset tiebreaker. Calott is the first 49er to 10 singles wins this season, as he sits at 4-3 in dual match play in singles, all at number-two. Davison leveled his season record to 7-7, with Jack Williams getting to 9-7, with a 5-3 record at the top spot in the line-up. Davison and freshman Paul Cisti (Archachon, France) were Charlotte's lone win in doubles. The pairing is 3-1 so far this season. The 49ers continue this two-match home stand on Thursday afternoon against Davidson.
