DES MOINES, Iowa - Junior Jake Deaton finished 18th in the men's shot put on Friday for the Charlotte men's track and field team, to close out the Niners' 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Deaton, who placed 18th in the discus throw on Wednesday, duplicated the effort on Friday in Des Moines. The Mooresville, N.C., native tossed a mark of 55-09. Deaton closed out his season, putting up one of the strongest throwing campaigns in Charlotte track and field history. The NCAA Championships ends the 49ers NCAA track and field season, and Charlotte will close out its 2011 year at the USATF Championships on June 22-26 in Eugene, Ore.
