Thomas, Law and Deaton set for NCAA Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior, Darius Law, senior Keara Thomas and junior Jake Deaton are set to compete in the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships' Finals for Charlotte on June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Law qualified for the NCAA Finals in the men's 400-meters for the third-consecutive year by running 46.33 in the quarterfinals of the event at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in Bloomington, Ind., on May 27. The Raleigh, N.C., native clocked the 10th-fastest to time to earn a bid to the NCAA National Final Meet in Des Moines.

Joining Law on the track, Thomas clocked 10:13.89 in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and passed Duke's Emily Schwitzer wih 200-meters to go to secure third place in her heat at the Preliminary Meet and garner an automatic qualification to the NCAA Finals. This marks the Haverhill, Mass., native's first trip to the NCAA Finals as she and Law are set to cap terrific Charlotte careers in Iowa.

In field action, Deaton is qualified in two events, the men's discus and shot put. The Mooresville, N.C., product tossed a school record, breaking his own previous Charlotte standard, in the shot put in Indiana to advance to the NCAA Finals. Deaton threw 60-00.50, hitting the 60-foot mark for the first time in Charlotte history, a goal he set early in the year. Two days later, Deaton threw 180-06 in the discus for 10th overall to notch another berth into the NCAA Finals.

Charlotte's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet will begin with Deaton competing in the discus at 6 p.m., on Wednesday. At 7 p.m., later that day, Law will run in the semifinals of the 400-meters. Thomas will compete in the steeplechase semis at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday. Deaton will throw again on Friday at 5:30 p.m., in the shot put.The final for the 400-meters are Friday at 8:02 p.m., while the steeplechase final is Saturday at 12:54 p.m. Results and a recap will be available at
