Goetschius Places 18th at USA Track Championships

Charlotte 49ers all-America distance runner Amanda Goetschius finished 18th in the 10,000 meter final at the USA Track and Field Championships, Thursday night.  Goetschius, who earned all-America honors at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 5000 meters, finished her run in 34:39.09.

Of note, former 49ers all-America Cassie (Ficken) Slade placed 12th in the same event, crossing at 33:57.32.  Slade, a native of Conifer, Colo., ran for Boulder Running.  She earned all-America honors in the 3000 meters at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Champiosnhips.

Earlier this year, Goetschius ran a time of 33:23.12 in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational, breaking Slade's five-year old school record. 

On Friday, several other 49ers will compete at the USA Track and Field Championships.  Maria Ruiz will run in the junior women's 3000 meter steeplechase final at 1:15, Sunita Brathwaite will run in the women's 100 meter hurdles prelims at 4:45 and Daweet Dagnachew and Ross Roberson will both run in the junior men's 10,000 meter run at 9:00 p.m.
