Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball senior guard Ben Cherry was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team for the second straight season. Cherry was named to the All-Academic team as an undergraduate student at Tulane last year.

“We are extremely excited for Ben,” Charlotte coach Alan Major said. “It has been a thrill to have him on our team this year. He exemplifies what it means to be an athlete on the court and an outstanding student off the court.”

Cherry, who transferred to Charlotte last May, ranks among Conference USA leaders in three-point field goal percentage. This season, he has recorded five double-figure scoring games including a career-high 20 points in the 49ers win over USC Upstate. He has had 13 games where he has connected on at least two three-point field goals. He connected on a season-high six three-point field goals in Charlotte’s wins over Northeastern and USC Upstate. He also knocked down five threes in the 49ers win over FIU. Cherry has played in all 28 of Charlotte’s games with 25 starts.

Cherry, who graduated from Tulane with a degree in Business Marketing last May, is currently working on a Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance and Development.

Cherry and the rest of the 49ers men’s basketball team concludes the regular-season on the road at Marshall, Thursday, March 6 at 7 pm.
