LONG BEACH, Calif. – Charlotte junior midfielder Amanda Jones has been selected to the Aug. 27 National Team of the Week, the website announced Tuesday morning. It marks the first weekly award presented by the website this season.

Jones, a Mahwah, N.J., product, earned the accolade after netting back-to-back game-winning goals over the weekend, lifting the 49ers to a 2-0 start. Her first goal, at 107:56, provided Charlotte with a 1-0 double-overtime triumph Friday against Liberty. It marked the seventh latest goal scored in program history.

Her second tally also marked the match’s only score, as she registered the goal at 1:32 and the Niners collected the 1-0 win against UNC Wilmington Sunday. It marked the 10th fastest goal to start a game in school history.

Jones’ honor is the first of her career and she becomes the first Charlotte player to garner a national team of the week plaudit since Whitney Weinraub and Macky Wingo were both named to the Nov. 2, 2010, Team of the Week.

Overall, the 49ers have collected seven Team of the Week honors in the program’s history.

Jones and the rest of her Charlotte teammates resume their season with a 7 p.m. Tuesday start against Gardner-Webb at Transamerica Field to close out a three-match homestand. The 49ers then hit the road for the first time this year for a 7 p.m. Sunday contest at Elon in Elon, N.C.
