49ers Fall At Home To George Washington

Charlotte, NC – Paul Cisti won his 17th singles match of the season but the Charlotte 49ers (11-8) lost to Atlantic 10 foe 67th ranked George Washington (12-5), 5-1, at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

“Credit to George Washington, they outplayed us today,” Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. “We learned some things from this match and we’ll take it with us into our next few matches as we prepare for the A-10 Tournament.”

George Washington won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte’s Jack Williams and Jordi Massalle Ferrer lost to George Washington’s Alexander van Gils and Ulrik Thomsen, 9-8. At number two doubles, Charlotte’s Cisti and Alex Calott saw their six-match winning streak end with an 8-2 loss to George Washington’s Danil Zelenkov and Nikita Fomin. At number three doubles, Charlotte’s Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz lost to George Washington’s Leonardo Lapentti and Francisco Dias, who are ranked 90th in the nation, 8-4.

George Washington won four singles match to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte’s Williams lost to George Washington’s Fomin, 7-5, 6-3. At number two singles, Charlotte’s Massalle Ferrer lost to George Washington’s Dias, 6-3, 6-2. At number three singles, Charlotte’s Khalil’s match with George Washington’s Zelenkov was not finished since George Washington had already clinched the overall victory. The match was tied at one set apiece with scores of 6-4, 2-6. At number four singles, Charlotte’s Calott lost to George Washington’s van Gils, 6-0, 7-5. At number five singles, Charlotte’s Cisti defeated George Washington’s Lapentti, 6-2, 6-0, for his 117th win. At number six singles, Charlotte’s Kwasniewicz lost to George Washington’s Viktor Svensson, 6-3, 6-2.

Charlotte continues their three-match home stand against Presbyterian at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Sunday, April 14 at 1 pm.
