Charlotte freshman golfer Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School & Sixth Form College) turned in an even-par 72 for a tie for 13th in his highest ranking in a team event after round one of the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Golf Course in Greensboro, Ga. Saturday. After a storm passed through before lunch, suspending play for a couple of hours, the second round of the event was suspended for darkness with most teams about halfway through play.

The golfers will resume their second rounds at 8:30 a.m. Sunday in a shotgun start, and the teams will play through into round three to finish the tournament.

Rowland’s par 72 led the team after round one. Charlotte junior Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga. / LSU) was tied for 23rd with a one-over 73 on the Par-72, 7,073-yard championship course.

Alabama is the only school below par to this point of the tournament. Charlotte was in a tie for ninth in the 14-team field at the point of play being suspended. The 49ers and South Florida are 15-over, at 485.
