CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte track and field team wrapped up the weekend by competing at two different meets.
At the HPU VertKlasse Meeting, Charlotte had several athletes place in the top eight.
T’Shiela Mungo made her collegiate debut in the 800m and won the event with a time of 2:10.19, which ranks third on the Charlotte all-time list. Taylor Carcella was third for the Niners (2:13.64) and Tianna McHenry finished eighth (2:19.38). Carcella’s time is fifth on the all-time list.
The men’s 4x100m relay team (Isaac McReynolds, Khyran Shank, Anthony Bynum, and LeRoy Rouse) finished first with a time of 40.55. The 4x400m relay team (Brian Hamilton, Christopher Boyd, Bynum, and Chris Tate) also came in first (3:14.42).
McReynolds also won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.38.
In the triple jump, Anthony Campbell won the event with a leap of 48’02.75.
LeAnna Morrison took second in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:00.86.
Charlotte placed four in the top eight in the men’s long jump and was led by Coye Still who finished third (22’07.75). Trey McRae was fifth (22’02.25). On the women’s side, Evelyn Putman came in third with a leap of 18’03.75 and Chelsie Carlton was fifth (17’10.25).
In the 100m hurdles, Alvonna Blakney led Charlotte and finished as the second collegiate performer and third overall with a personal best time of 14.16. Putman was seventh overall (15.02).
Tate also finished seventh in the 400m (48.76). Still’s leap of 6’05 in the high jump was good for eighth place.
In the participation section, Jenna Christensen (4:42.83), Maria Ruiz (4:43.11), and Morgan Richards (4:43.65) took the top three spots in the 1500m. In the 800m, Ruiz finished first with a time of 2:18.61).Casey Evans won the 100m (11.14) and Allyson Sherlock was first in the pole vault (10’0.75).
At the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina, Toby Jo Klauenberg won the discus with a toss of 132’10. Wright placed fourth with a throw of 124’10. Klauenberg also finished sixth in the shot put (42’01.25). Brittany Ann Leffler finished sixth in the javelin (114’01).
Jake Deaton enjoyed another great week in the field events and won the discus with a throw of 175’02. Deaton also placed second in the shot put (54’06.50).
Charlotte returns back to action on Saturday, March 30 for the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
