Charlotte, NC - Mike Thorne recorded his first career double-figure scoring game but the Charlotte 49ers (18-8, A-10: 6-6) lost to Temple (19-8, A-10: 8-5), 71-51, in Halton Arena.
"You have to give Temple credit they are a good team," Charlotte coach Alan Major said. "They got into an offensive rhythm early. We did not play to our character tonight. I am disappointed but not discouraged."
Thorne and Pierria Henry led the 49ers with 10 points apiece. Terrence Williams scored nine points off the bench for the 49ers. Scootie Randall led Temple with 18 points.
"I felt that Mike Thorne grew up before our eyes tonight," Major said "He played with a lot of energy."

Temple outscored the 49ers 27-12 over the final 10 minutes of the half taking a 39-24 halftime lead.
Early in the second half with Temple leading 42-26, the 49ers went on an 8-0 run capped off by a Henry jumper in the lane cutting Temple's lead to 42-34 with 14:56 on the clock. Henry scored six of his 10 points during the run.
Temple's Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson ended the 49ers run with a jump shot with 14:42 on the clock. Charlotte's E. Victor Nickerson got the 49ers back to within eight points with a dunk off a Clayton steal with 13:32 left in the second half.
However, that would be as close as the 49ers would get as Temple pushed their lead back to double-figures after a Khalif Wyatt layup at the 13:10 mark. Charlotte would cut Temple's lead to nine points on two different occasions after Thorne baskets over the next four minutes.
With Temple leading 53-40 with 7:01 on the clock, Williams knocked down a three for the 49ers cutting Temple's lead to 53-43. Temple's Jake O'Brien answered Williams' three with a three pushing Temple's lead back to 13 points. The 49ers would not get any closer the rest of the game.
