49ers set for JDL Hilton Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte track and field team continues to roll through its schedule and is slated to compete at the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C beginning on Friday, Feb. 1. 

The meet kickoffs with the heptathlon at noon on Friday followed by the pentathlon at 12.15 p.m. The running and field events will being at 5 p.m. The meet opens up on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. with the multi events, while the running and field events start at 10 a.m.

The Niners are no strangers to the JDL Fast Track as they opened their 2012-13 indoor season back there in December. Charlotte performed well at the track and took home nine first place finishes at the season-opener. 

Charlotte has already experienced a tremendous amount of success and has been led by a variety of athletes this season. 

Jake Deaton (shot put), T’Sheila Mungo (500m), and Katrina Wright (weight throw) have all set new indoor school records.

In the sprints, the women have been led by Joann Blakney, Alvonna Blakney, and Mungo. Maraya Slatter and Maria Ruiz have performed well for the 49ers in the middle distance events, while Morgan Richards and Hana Sutchar have headed the long distance efforts. 

In the jumps, Briauna Jones is continuing to turn in stellar performances as well as Lauren Gulley. Sarah Fell and Jana Eatman have led the Niners in the pole vault this season while Toby Jo Klauenberg, Aubrey Dowding, and Wright have controlled the throws for Charlotte. 

The Niner men have also had many contributions in the sprints this season and are led by Khyran Shank, Anthony Bynum, Cordell Livingston, Chris Tate and Brian Hamilton. Sean Kluttz has led Charlotte in all three middle distance events (800m, 1000, and mile) and Zach Greth and Joseph Cotto have headed the long distance races this season. 

Joshua Dunston, Trey McRae, and Livingston have each aided Charlotte in the jumps, while Robert Wilson and Jake Deaton lead the pole vault and throws. 

Charlotte’s next meet following the JDL Hilton Invitational will be the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson on Feb.8-9, which will be their last meet before the Atlantic 10 Championship on Feb.16-17 in Newport, R.I.
