CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2013 when it begins its away conference slate by traveling to Kingston, R.I., to face Rhode Island at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Niners have played three-straight home games, including the Atlantic 10 opener, inside Halton Arena to begin the calendar year.

Charlotte brings an 11-4, 0-1 record into Wednesday's meeting, the eighth in the series. The 49ers won three consecutive times before dropping a 59-56 decision to Fordham Sunday afternoon. Three Niners reached double-figure scoring, led by Jennifer Hailey's team-high 16 points. She added a game-best 16 rebounds for her 30th career double-double, tying her for fourth in program history, while also extending her consecutive games streak with at least one blocked shot to 27.

Hailey averages 14.5 points and 11.3 rebounds on the season, joining classmate Amanda Dowe with respective averages of 11.0 and 11.3 through the team's first 15 contests. The pair, who shares the A-10 rebounding lead, is among just 37 players to average a double-double nationally.

Junior Ny Hammonds crossed over the century mark for assists, raising her total to 103. The national leader for the season's opening two months currently ranks fifth among all players across the country after handing out seven in Sunday's game.

Rhode Island has lost its last five contests entering Wednesday's matchup to fall to 5-11 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Rams, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Cathy Inglese, were beaten 72-46 at La Salle Saturday in their inaugural league tilt of the campaign.

Tayra Melendez leads the squad with 9.9 points per game, slightly ahead of the 9.1 average from Samantha Tabakman. Tabakman is the team's top rebounder at 7.9 per contest.

Charlotte owns a 5-2 series edge, having picked up victories in each of the last four times the two teams have played. The 49ers earned a 72-35 triumph last year and a 64-50 win in 2011, the last game played at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.

Wednesday's contest will be televised locally in Rhode Island on the Ocean States Network, marking the second-straight TV game for the Niners.
