CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Charlotte cross country team took some time out of its schedule to spend the day with the Mariners on the Move running club, earlier Friday afternoon at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

The Mariners on the Move youth running club includes students from the Mountain Island Day School. The students range between second and seventh graders and meet twice a week to train for their upcoming meet, the Jingle Bell Jog on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Blakeney Shopping Center.

The 49ers greeted the enthusiastic students and discussed tips on nutrition, exercise, drills, and the mechanics of running. The Niners were paired up with a student and joined together in a friendly competition that really got the kids going.

After the race, the students and 49ers stretched together and discussed the importance of pacing yourself during the race.

"The kids absolutely enjoyed themselves today," explained Misty Fraley, a Charlotte alumna and second grade teacher at Mountain Island Day. "They love seeing the college athletes because it reminds them of what they can become. It keeps our runners committed to our goals."

Charlotte returns back to action on Friday, November 9 for the NCAA Southeast Regional at McAlpine Park.
