|Volleyball Claims Second Five-Set Win Saturday|
Charlotte junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) was named Tournament MVP as Charlotte won its second five-set marathon of the day (20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12) over Gardner-Webb to claim the team title of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic. Charlotte improves to 7-2 on the year, dropping GW to 1-10.
For Charlotte, Bianca Rouse turned in a match-high 22 kills, to go along with 18 digs, while Amanda Videmsek added 15 kills in the win.
After her fifth double-double of the season earlier in the day, senior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) racked up 22 kills and 18 digs to pace the 49ers to the win. Senior Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) also broke her own career high from earlier in the day with 60 assists.
GWU handed the Niners their first opening-set loss of the season, but the Niners put together a 9-1 run in the middle of the second to even the match.
The Niners took the lead with the third-set win after five ties and a lead change, only to have GW answer to even the match and force the second tiebreaking set of the season for Charlotte.
In the fifth, GW took a quick 2-0 lead, but a 4-0 run and a 3-0 run pushed Charlotte's lead to 12-7 and Charlotte held off the Runnin' Bulldogs for the win.
Rouse, along with senior Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) were also named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts. Litoborski matched her season-high from earlier in the day with 23 digs for Charlotte in the nightcap.
Charlotte will finally play at home next weekend in the Hilton University 49er Invitational, starting with a Friday night match against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m.
