Coral Gables, Fla. -- It took torrential rain and lightning to keep the Charlotte 49ers from chasing their seventh straight Atlantic 10 Championship.

Charlotte, which had won each of the six conference titles since joining the league, was tied for second with Xavier after two rounds, two strokes back of leader George Washington, but rain cancelled the final round, giving the Colonials their first A-10 Championship.

Sunday's storms, which accompanied flash flood watches, were forecast to continue the remainder of the day at the par 72, 7,055-yard Heron Bay Golf Club.

Charlotte finished tied for second but received the runner-up trophy due to the tie-breaker procedure utilizing the team's fifth score.

Charlotte 49ers freshman Raoul Menard won the individual title by one stroke at six-under par 138.  Menard give the 49ers their fourth A-10 individual title.  Former all-America Corey Nagy won the 2009 and 2010 titles and Matt Mincer won the title in 2007.  Charlotte has won six individual league titles, including Russell Killough's 2002 Conference USA title and David Winesette's 1992 Metro title.

Senior Paul Ferrier, who finished tied for seventh, joined Menard on the A-10 all-conference team.

Charlotte, which has advanced to a school-record seven straight NCAA Tournaments and will await word on a possible at-large berth.
