49ers Host Richmond On Senior Day, Sunday

The Charlotte 49ers (15-12, A-10: 7-6) play Richmond (22-6, A-10: 9-4) in Halton Arena in their final regular-season game, Sunday, February 26 at 2 pm. Prior to the game the 49ers will honor seniors Katie Meador and Epiphany Woodson.

Charlotte enters the Richmond game having won nine of their last 11 final regular-season home games. The 49ers are 22-14 all-time in their final regular-season home game.

Now we will take a closer look at the 49ers entering the Richmond game. Jennifer Hailey leads the 49ers and ranks eighth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 13.8 points per game. She leads the Atlantic 10 in rebounding at 9.3 boards per game. Amanda Dowe, who averages 6.9 points per game, is second in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding at 9.2 boards per game.  Woodson is second on the team and 12th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 12.8 points per game. Woodson, who has recorded eight double-figure scoring games off the bench in Atlantic 10 play, scored a career-high 32 points in the 49ers last game at Saint Louis. Gabby Tyler is third on the team in scoring at 8.4 points per game. She also averages 5.5 boards per game. Jai Forney is fourth on the team in scoring at 7.9 points per game. Forney is the only Niner to start all 27 games this season. Hillary Sigmon, who has started the last 17 games, averages 7.4 points per game. Sigmon grabbed a career-high six rebounds at Saint Louis last Wednesday. Ny Hammonds, who averages 5.0 points per game, leads the team in assists with 95. Hammonds is trying to become only the 18th player in school history to record 100 assists in a season. Ayanna Holmes has started 23 games this season at point guard. Holmes averages 4.0 points per game. Meador averages a career-high 4.0 points per game this season.

Charlotte and Richmond have played nine previous times. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 8-1. Charlotte has won seven straight games against Richmond. Last season, the 49ers defeated Richmond, 73-62, on the road in the regular-season, January 26, 2011. Then, the 49ers defeated Richmond, 68-63, in the A-10 Tournament Quarterfinals, March 5, 2011. Former 49ers standout Shannon McCallum led the 49ers with 21 points. Woodson scored 13 points and Amanda Dowe grabbed 14 rebounds in that game. The most important meeting ever between the two teams came in the 2009 A-10 Tournament Championship game played in Halton Arena, March 9, 2009. The 49ers defeated Richmond, 59-54, to claim the program's first A-10 Tournament title. Charlotte defeated Richmond, 60-46, in their last meeting in Halton Arena, January 26, 2010. McCallum scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in that game. Former 49ers standout Ashley Spriggs scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in that game.
