This is the sixth home-and-home series that the 49ers have scheduled for their first two seasons and comes against a former familiar foe for the 49ers. Charlotte and Old Dominion played in the Sun Belt Conference together from 1982-91.
"It is exciting for us to schedule and compete against a start-up team that we have so much respect for," said 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose, who will accompany other members of the 49ers athletic staff and university community on a fact-finding trip to Old Dominion, this weekend, to observe and ask questions of the Monarchs program. "We think they have done things the right way and appreciate their willingness to share so much valuable insight that will help us!"
During the inaugural 2013 season, Charlotte will play its first football game at home, Aug. 31, 2013 vs. Campbell and host Gardner Webb Oct. 5. The 49ers also have road games slated at Charleston Southern, Oct. 26, Coastal Carolina, Nov. 2 and Morehead State, Nov. 23. In 2014, the sites switch as the 49ers head to Campbell, Sept. 20 and Gardner Webb, Oct. 4, while Charleston Southern (Sept. 27), Coastal Carolina (Nov. 8) and Morehead State (Nov. 22) come to Charlotte.
Football Seat Licenses are on sale, now, to offer fans the right to purchase season tickets to Charlotte 49ers football games. To purchase FSLs, which are the only way to guarantee a seat to 49ers football games, fans can call the 49ers athletic ticket office at 704/687-4949 or log on to charlotte49ers.com or charlotte49erfootball.com.
