Charlotte 49ers three-time all-America and career stroke average leader Corey Nagy, the defending Atlantic 10 individual champion, will open play in the prestigious Jones Cup, Friday at 10:20 a.m.
The invitation-only Jones Cup is an amateur competition that attracts some of the nation's top amateur's for a 54-hole stroke play event. The 28-player field will compete from Feb. 5-7 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Current PGA professional D.J. Trahan won the inaugural event in 2001. Last year's champion was Kyle Stanley.
The Jones Cup brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad for this three-day competition. While the golf course proves to be a great venue for this unique event, the Jones Cup's success and popularity can be attributed to the strength of the players who comprise its field and to the gracious southern hospitality for which Sea Island is known.
Nagy is currently ranked 38th in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.
